IN THE YEAR THAT KING UZZIAH DIED
The Throne Is Not Empty
The Year Everything Shifted
Isaiah 6:1-8
In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one called to another and said:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
the whole earth is full of his glory!”
4 And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. 5 And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!”
6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.”
8 And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”
Isaiah looks up.
And what he sees changes everything.
A Word About Kings
1 Samuel 8:4-7
“Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah and said to him, “Behold, you are old and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now appoint for us a king to judge us like all the nations.” But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, “Give us a king to judge us.” And Samuel prayed to the Lord. And the Lord said to Samuel, “Obey the voice of the people in all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me from being king over them.”
Look Up. Jehovah Sabaoth Is Seated.
The Train of His Robe
The King was not filling the temple. The Lord of Hosts had fought and won every battle, and each was recorded on His train showing He was, is, and will be victorious, ALWAYS.
Jehovah Sabaoth, Lord of Hosts
Jehovah Sabaoth is seated. High and lifted up. The train of His robe filling this room with every battle He has ever fought and won. And He has not lost a single one.
You are not abandoned. You are not vulnerable. You are not exposed.
You are standing in the throne room of the Commander in Chief.
Tell the Truth. The Throne Can Hold It.
Woe Is Me
Isaiah 6:5
“And I said: Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!”
Jehovah Sabaoth does not send His people to the altar and then leave them there. He sends them to the altar and then asks the question.
Bring your hurt to the throne. Lay it down. And let Him make you ready for what He is about to do.
Because something is about to happen.
The Question Is Being Asked.
Whom Shall I Send
*Isaiah 6:8 *-- “And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”
Here I am is not a statement of self-sufficiency. It is not Isaiah announcing that he has himself together and is ready to take charge. It is a soldier reporting for duty to the only Commander who has never lost a battle.
This Is Not Your Battle to Win
Your job right now is one thing.
See the Lord high and exalted in this place.
Fix your eyes on the throne. Not on the circumstances. Not on the questions. Not on what is missing or what is uncertain. On the throne. On Jehovah Sabaoth seated, high and lifted up, robe filling the temple, the foundations shaking at the sound of His name.
Stay faithful in what is right in front of you. Love the person sitting next to you. Pray. Show up. Be the church.
Driven to Your Knees Is Exactly the Right Place
2 Chronicles 20:15b
“Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed at this great horde, for the battle is not yours but God’s.”
