Abnormal- Week 1

Peace in Chaos

Mark 4: 35-41

35 On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” 36 And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. 38 But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” 39 And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” 41 And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

Why does the storm happen?

Why is Jesus sleeping?

Proverbs 3:5-7

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,

    and do not lean on your own understanding.

In all your ways acknowledge him,

    and he will make straight your paths.

Be not wise in your own eyes;

    fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.

Ray Johnston things that wear us out

1. Unhealthy people

2. Unkind critics

3. Unbalanced schedules

4. Unnecessary guilt

5. Underestimating the impact of exposure (music, tv)

Ways to refuel

1. Invest in your own growth

2. Understand the power of authentic worship

* renews your strength

* reconnects you with God

* restores your perspective

* rekindles your hope

* rebuilds your confidence

* restores your joy

* releases your anxieties

3. Unleash the Bible into your life

4. Pay attention to whose voice you are listening to

Matthew 11:28

28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Gal 6: 1-5

Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. For each will have to bear his own load.

* We are to help each other, not criticize

* No one is better than anyone else

* We all have a burden to carry so let’s help each other

Why are you so fearful?

I John 4:18

18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.

Psalm 34:4

I sought the Lord, and he answered me

    and delivered me from all my fears.

2 Tim 1:7

for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

Proverbs 29:25

The fear of man lays a snare,

    but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe.

Hebrews 13: 1-5

 Let brotherly love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body. Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous. Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Spirits of Fear...

1. Spirit Of Control

2. Spirit Of Possessiveness

3. Spirit Of Entitlement

4. Mistaken Identity

Who then is this?

Deut. 31: 1- 6

 So Moses continued to speak these words to all Israel. And he said to them, “I am 120 years old today. I am no longer able to go out and come in. The Lord has said to me, ‘You shall not go over this Jordan.’ The Lord your God himself will go over before you. He will destroy these nations before you, so that you shall dispossess them, and Joshua will go over at your head, as the Lord has spoken. And the Lord will do to them as he did to Sihon and Og, the kings of the Amorites, and to their land, when he destroyed them. And the Lord will give them over to you, and you shall do to them according to the whole commandment that I have commanded you. Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”
